What is World Elephant Day you ask?

World Elephant Day asks for your help to conserve and protect elephants from the numerous threats they face. It is an annual international campaign to bring people together to help elephants.

Below are ways you can learn more about these majestic animals, what dangers they face, and how you can help.

PAWS is dedicated to the protection of performing animals, to providing sanctuary to abused, abandoned and retired captive wildlife, to enforcing the best standards of care for all captive wildlife, to the preservation of wild species and their habitat and to promoting public education about captive wildlife issues.

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit PAWS and below is a photo of me and Maggie, and African elephant. Maggie retired to PAWS back in 2007 after being in a zoo in Alaska for many years. Learn more about her move to PAWS here and learn more about Maggie here.

Below is a picture of me and Maggie. Sadly, Maggie has passed away a year ago but she will forever have a piece of my heart.

The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee spans over 3,000 acres and provides captive elephants with individualized care, the companionship of a herd, and the opportunity to live out their lives in a safe haven dedicated to their well-being.

ELEPHANTS FOREVER STAMP

In celebration of World Elephant Day this year, The U.S. Postal Service will celebrate elephants with this lighthearted and playful new stamp. The Elephants Forever stamp features a fanciful, digital illustration of an elephant interacting with its young calf, depicting the affectionate nature of these beloved animals.

The Elephant Sanctuary is having a First Day of Issue Dedication Ceremony for this new stamp. Learn more clicking the graphic below!

Stamps will be available on August 12, 2022. Share elephant awareness by simply using these postage stamps on all items you send in the U.S. Mail!

WHY I LOVE ELEPHANTS

My immense love of elephants began in 2006 during a trip to a local zoo where one lonely Asian elephant resided, seemingly showing signs of stress that many elephants face at zoos. Since then they have had my heart. They are highly intelligent animals with complex emotions, feelings, compassion, and self-awareness. They grieve for the loss of one of their own and are one of very few species to recognize themselves in a mirror!

Below is a photo Billy. He now has (3) female companions that join him in his renovated habitat.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and learn more about elephants.
